Grantham v Sedgefield, 19th October 2024
Coach: Dave
TMs: Adam and Marie
Two weeks on from the nail-biting match in Sedgefield, our competitors made the long journey down the A1 to The Meres as we hosted the return leg of this league match.
Sedgefield took ownership of the ball from the swim off in the first quarter, but it came straight back to Grantham. There was an early goal by Sedgefield however not to be outdone, Gabriel seized the opportunity and with four seconds left he scored, ending the quarter 1:1.
In the second quarter, Gabriel scored again within the first minute. It was a great performance including some strong tackling by Sam, leading to Grantham’s third goal scored by Seth.
As the third quarter played out, Sedgefield tried to equal up with their second goal one minute in. However, Sam was playing on great form and scored two goals in quick succession. Sedgefield tried to close the gap with another goal taking the score to 5:3 to Grantham, when Coach Dave called a Time Out. This was a great call, as Olly and Sam both went on to score again in the last minute or so of the quarter, ending 7:3 to Grantham.
Heading into the final quarter, a confident Grantham team knew they had to keep possession of the ball and maintain their lead. Seth scored an impressive goal, followed by another Time Out and yet another goal from Sam. Grantham cruised to a 9:3 victory!
As always, a big thank you to Dave for his amazing coaching, to all our players for their excellent teamwork and enthusiasm as the school half term holidays were getting underway, and to the Sedgefield team who made that very long journey down the A1 to play. And we all wished Sam and Thomas, who stayed on to play in the U16 match vs Sedgefield, the best of luck, while Dave had to quickly get changed into his Referee uniform to referee the second match!
