The opening U16’s home game for the 2025 season was a keenly anticipated game against Morley. Previous matches have always been close affairs with the score potentially going either way. This match however, was more of a demolition and a great demonstration of all round teamwork.
Despite Morley never giving up, Grantham dominated in all areas of attack and defence, preventing any chances for Morley to score. Whilst the defence shut down the majority of Morley’s attacks, when they did get a shot in, Reuben made some excellent saves. The team mixed fast attacks up the middle with spreading the ball wide to either wings keeping Morley on the back foot. Out of the 13 players rotated throughout the game, there were 8 goal scorers (Ethan, Sophia, Alfie, Thomas, Sam, Alex, Joel and Isabel) with most scoring 2 or 3 goals each and top scorers Sam and Alfie on 4. Overall, this was a very strong team performance across the board which bodes well for the rest of the season.
Well done U16s!
